In this pandemic period, our diet has undergone some changes and this is related to several habits we have broken because of quarantine. Now that we can’t go out to eat, we need to get used to a different type of food. Today you are going to learn a little about new ways of eating, how to avoid wasting food and how to form healthier eating habits. I will give examples of how to improve your eating habits using my pre-quarantine and quarantine diet.

Before quarantine, every morning ─ around 7 a.m. ─ I had my breakfast which was chocolate milk and

French bread, now during quarantine I drink banana apple smoothie and oats or a wholemeal bread with Minas cheese and juice.

In the afternoon, at lunchtime, I used to eat a lot of rice and beans, I didn’t eat vegetables and I was always drinking soda. Now, I started to eat only 2 tablespoons of rice and a bean scoop and some vegetables. I also started to drink after I ate and when there is some leftover from lunch or dinner, I keep it in the fridge to eat in the next meal so there’s no food waste.

At dinner, I always ate in excess like I did during lunch, but now, I only eat a very light snack or I don’t eat anything.

For you to be able to make these changes you need to start a routine. For example, you should always eat at the same time without skipping any meal, eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, avoid eating canned food and drink water.

All these changes made a big difference in my life, because when I woke up in the morning I felt very lazy and now I am very productive. I am more focused in class. Another thing that also helps is exercise. In addition to helping your body, it makes you feel good about yourself and good mental health is something we need to have during this period.
